I started this project when I started my job as a casual barista at Allpress Espresso, Sydney. I was intrigued by the capsules, wondering how they taste compare to their actual specialty counterparts (come to Sydney and find out). I was struggling with getting the metallic textures of the capsule to look 'right' under camera movement. Hence, I fall back to the pure white capsules where surprisingly the forms and contours of the capsule which I didn't anticipate and found quite pleasing. The simulation was my attempt to still preserve the signature Allpress color theme while 'spicing things up'. I wanted it to ripple through the object, echoing the sensory experience of coffee brewing.
The capsule was modeled in Houdini. Started from the simple shape of the body and disc. Then added the inner and outer rim. The notable thing is the concave pattern on the top of the capsule. I wrote a vex code which displace the main geometry given the distance of other geo (logo + pattern). Lastly the UVs are applied based on seams that were done on the individual parts.
